prepare an original writing on any work by one of the authors listed on the syllabus for the dates 3/17 to 4/26, that is Donne, Ben Jonson, Herbert, Herrick, Philips, Marvell, and Milton. (You may clear an author selection from the period but not on the syllabus with me.) Content: Please choose one theme from the text and analyze it using a historical, feminist, psychological, or linguistic lens. So to clarify with an example. If you chose “The Three Little Pigs,” you could discuss it in different ways. A HISTORICAL lens would address the plight of orphaned pigs and their economic circumstances. The FEMINIST lens might address the lack of female characters or definitions of masculinity as exhibited by the pigs and the wolf. A PSYCHOLOGICAL lens could consider the issue of anxiety or the hunter/prey scenario. A LINGUISTIC approach might work with the language directly: syntax, pragmatics, etc. So decide what author you’d like to study, pick a work by that person, and choose your lens. You may reference research but I am just as happy with you applying your lens and sharing thoughts from your own brain. Any questions, just ask.
