Like many other short stories and novels, Black Man In Europe functions as a literary commentary that offers insight and criticism about the society and the individuals that it describes. Since this is a mini-research paper, remember to consider the background information regarding the author’s history, culture, language, and the ties he has to New Orleans and the experience of being a transplant to Oakland, California. Be sure to factor the elements of how Jones’ idiosyncratic lived experience shaped his view of the world, which are created and identified within the edifice of the novel.
