D‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍etails of Task: Your final report should have covered the following: Identification of the key political risk issues both internal and external that are impacting on the country at present ( Saudi Arabia ) and are likely to indicate political risk for investors to this country. As mentioned above you are strongly encouraged to use the Ten Types of Political Risk (see the Rice and Zegart – HBR article from Week 1 Readings on Moodle)(on the attachments) as a guide for your investigation in order to examine the political risk issues facing this country. Please note that not all the types of political risk listed by Rice and Zegart are relevant for all countries, use your discretion to cover what you think is appropriate you do not have to cover all ten types of political risk. What is the effect and impact that these issues are having on business in this country/region? Project forward, identify and discuss issues on the horizon that you think may impact and in what way, the political landscape in this country? On the basis of your analysis, how do you think these issues will evolve and ‘play out’ and what do you think the future holds for this country in terms of the political issues it faces? Having done the analysis what is the assessment and evaluation of your country from a political risk perspective and what does this mean for business and foreign investors looking to engage in business in this country? Your assessment will need to be consistent with the analysis contained in the report. The Background Briefing will help build the content towards your Final Report. Students should consider the feedback provided to them in the Background Brief and incorporate aspects of this report into the final report. Word limit: 4000 words excluding reference list, maps, tables, figures etc Presentation requirements: Components of the Report 1. Title Page 2. Executive Summary This section accurately and precisely summarises the entire contents of the report. It should include reference to the aim of the report, a very brief background to the organisation, a summary of the main findings of the group’s analysis of the industry and of the macro environmental factors impacting the organisation. More importantly, it should contain a summary of the conclusion and implications for management. This section should be no more than half to one page. 3. Table of Contents Provide a list of the major and minor sections of your report. 4. Introduction What are the objectives or aims/purpose of the investigation? Set the scene and context by giving some background information about the topic. Some justification as to why you chose this topic and why is it worthy of investigation? (you have already covered the above, in the background briefing). What are the parameters of the report and limitations? Provide the reader with an overall outline of the report structure. 5. Discussion and Analysis This section forms the bulk of the report. Discuss the evidence you have gathered with specific reference to the political risk issues you are investigating for your country. Evidence based inquiry and theoretical perspectives that may help you interpret your data and findings can all be used to support the judgements and conclusions you draw as a result of your analysis. Maps, tables, figures etc. can all be used to argue and support your arguments. Group your arguments and organise them into a logical sequence, using sections a‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍nd sub-sections with appropriate sign-posted headings. The report should have a consistent and logical flow and should be easy to follow. Make sure you acknowledge and cite all your sources and references. 6. Conclusion, Implications and Recommendations Answer the question asked of you in the report. Given the data and your analysis, what conclusions can you draw? What has been the overall significance of what you have found? It might be useful to remind the reader of the key points in terms of your findings. In order of priority, what are the implications of your findings? What are the recommendations that flow on from these implications and are there appropriate policy actions that you can suggest going forward? The conclusion and recommendations need to be consistent with the discussion that takes place in the previous discussion sections. Avoid introducing new material into the conclusion. Reference List Provide a list of all the sources and references you have used in compiling the report. Appendices Appendices are to be avoided, what needs to be said should be in the body of the report. If you really need to supply supporting information it should be placed in this section. Other Final Report Tips Keep the report concise and to the point. Bullet points are acceptable however within reason, the report needs to analyse, explain and justify. So do not provide an endless list of bullet points which provide little in the way of explanation (this will not be rewarded). Report Analysis For your report to be analytical and insightful you need to source information on the issues of the country you are investigating and take on board a broad cross-section of perspectives. Analysis is expected, not just “broad brush” description. Arguments made, need to be backed up by evidence. It is important you try to find out the reality of the situation, avoid ‘swallowing’ official government lines on government or unsubstantiated web sites. There are generally two sides to every story. Consistency of Argument In writing your report consistency of argument needs to be maintained. You can use headings and sub-headings to ‘sign-post’ the report it still needs to be consistent and retain a certain degree of fluidity. It is a referenced piece of work and as such citable references are expected to support your arguments and contentions. Tables, graphs etc. can be used to argue and support your case. Students are expected to have used a wide variety of sources including, journal articles, consultant, government and NGO reports, books, newspapers, and the internet (should be citable references) to develop their arguments. In writing the report students are expected to highlight the information requested with evidence, using appropriately cited references. Remember to acknowledge your sources throughout the report using the Harvard referencing system. The report is to be typed using a standard 12-point font and spacing. It should be checked for spelling, consistency and clarity of expression. A note on using the internet for research. Where the internet is used for investigating a topic find references and information from appropriate authorities so that the sources can be referenced. Academic, government, non-government organisations are all generally appropriate sources for information. Avoid using individuals or non-recognised anonymous sources of information. You are expected to use a wide variety of reference material to invest‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍igate your topic.
