Here, you will find a link to the Court of Appeals website detailing/describing cases that the Court has heard or is scheduled to hear in calendar year 2020 (“Cases Pending Before the Court”): https://www.courts.state.md.us/coappeals/pendingcases. To complete this assignment, you will review the case descriptions on the Court’s website (the link I provided above) and select a case involving a subject matter that interests you. Then watch (or listen to) the full recording of the parties’ arguments. If there is a written opinion in the case, you should read that as well. After your observation is complete, you will prepare a 3-5 page, type-written narrative description and analysis of what you observed. The narrative should include but is not limited to the following; (1) the name of the case, date and time of the argument, (2) the legal issue(s) before the court, (3) a description of the parties to the proceeding, (4) an analysis of the content of the proceedings (what happened, what lawyers’ arguments you found most compelling), (5) your overall impression of the proceedings, and (6) (a) the outcome, if the Court has issued an opinion in the case, or (b) if the Court has not issued an opinion in the case, what you believe the outcome will be as to the issues presented, and why.
